Unit 4
Handles
My fun-handle project was also my first semester final. I spent a good amount of time on this piece. I had some difficulty getting the handle to stay, but overall, this piece was moderately easy, and I had a good time with the construction. I rolled out a slab, measuring and cutting it accordingly. I wrapped that rectangular piece around a spherical container. I then cut a circle out of a slab and used that as the bottom. The branches, including the handle, were made out of coils and attached theroughly.
Lidded Box
This project was fun, and I am happy with the results. There were some difficulties, such as the failure of my first lid and the greater failure of my first box. Luckily, I was able to create a much better box through better planning and measuring. I enjoyed making this piece. The box was made by first rolling out a slab and cutting 5 equal side squares. I then beveled the appropriate edges, scored, slipped, stuck, and smoothed the edges together, creating a cube with one open side. I carved the designs into each side and set the box aside. The lid was made with one square slab with the same dimensions as those of the sides and bottom and 4 long strips. I also built a dragon fly and stuck that on top.
Series of 4
This project took me a very very long time. I made all 4 of these plates out of a slab before a began workinng on the designs. I put so much detail in these and am really happy with how they turned out(my favorite is the whale shark). These took a lot of patience but I still enjoyed making them.
Unit 5
Small Bust
This project was incredibly difficult, and I felt as though every time I worked on it, I only went backward. I wasn't able to complete it because it dried up too much for further work during the duration of our school break. I started the piece with a block of clay then began to shape it. I poked holes for the eyes and put equal-sized balls in them. I also added a chunk of slay in the center of the head for the nose and shaped that accordingly. I didn't get much further than that but in my head the rest of the face was planned out.
Current Artist Inspired/Useful piece.
I love this piece, and I really enjoyed making it. Throwing on the wheel is something I love, and I hope to have another chance to throw again. The painting process was fun but tedious. Overall, I think this is a great piece and a wonderful Mother's Day gift for my mom.

This was inspired by Marcia Baldwin's Dancing Colors Koi. Marcia Baldwin does oil painting and her work is spectacular. She has both a bacholers and a Masters in fine art but it is widely believed that her natural talent far outshines any of her education.
Alebrije
I chose an elephant for my Alebrije because I'm amazed by their immense intelligence, and I think they're incredibly cute. This project definitely has some issues. For one, The clay was incredibly soft when I started working and it was almost impossible to shape it how I wanted it. Additionally, The clay dried up too much by the next time I got to sculpting, and again, it was hard to sculpt. However, I overcame both of these and was shocked that it did not break apart.
